Save The Bays (STB), a non-profit organization comprised of Bahamian and international members united in their commitment to preserve and protect the Bahamian environment through proactive policy change, education, and advocacy, believes it is essential that young people are strategically engaged as leaders, architects, and agents in the environmental, economic and overall development landscape. As the future leaders of our country, young people must have the skills, tools, and support they need to play an active role in reshaping our environmental policies.
In our country, there is a great need for effective leadership. The pressing needs of today and the future challenges we face point to the need to expand how we think about leadership and who can develop the ability to lead. We must expand the leadership equation to include more people who are actively engaged in solving matters of great importance to our nation. Young people must be included in leadership capability building efforts to increase our global capacity to address today’s and tomorrow’s challenges. In order for individuals and society to reach their highest potential and be able to respond to the complex challenges of the day, a more intentional process of learning, exposure, and experience must be enacted.
As the educational component of STB now enters its fifth year, with selected students ages 11 to 14 who are in grades 7 to 9, STB’s dynamic, creative and sustainable leadership will be combined with a hands-on interaction of the major components which constitute our unique island environment. Again, we will be most selective in the choice of students for this program.
